Help to Marvel

Dear Redeeming Grace,

Sometimes we need to freshly marvel at the person of Jesus. And God, in his wisdom, has given us verses in his word that help us to do that. One of those verses is Colossians 1:15-16. Speaking of Jesus, God's word says:

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him."

This passage and the ones that follow are rich with truth worthy of our meditation:

  • Jesus makes visible the invisible God.
  • He is the exact likeness of God because he is one with the Father and the Spirit.
  • As firstborn, he is the heir of all things, all creation.
  • Everything we can see and all we cannot see was created by him.
  • He knows the exact purpose of every moment, person and event because they are ultimately for him.

These are just a few of the wonders that stir our hearts and affections for Jesus as we think on verses like these. Let me encourage you to set aside time to meditate on a verse like this and use it as an opportunity to stand more in awe of the Lord, and to worship him as you think on his greatness.
