Shining the Light
Dear Redeeming Grace,Last week Dave reminded us of Jesus's words in Matthew 5 that encourage us in how to live for him. Jesus used the illustration of lighting a lamp and putting it on a stand. Then he said: "In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." (Matt. 5:16 ESV) As Christians, we are those who have experienced the transforming power of the gospel in our lives. We were once slaves to sin and enemies of God. But God has rescued and redeemed us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus! By his grace, he's made us like a light that he's set on a stand. Dave's wonderful encouragement to us was the reminder that we can have an impact in this world by shining that light right where we are. Through acts of simple obedience to the Lord in our homes, schools, workplaces, teams and activities, we can show good works that bring glory to our Father. We pray that God uses you as an individual right where you are, and us as a church right here in Franklin and beyond to shine his light brightly to a world in need of hope and peace. May God do this to bring glory to himself. What a joy to serve the Lord together!
