The Compelling Gospel

Dear Redeeming Grace,

Last week we continued to marvel at how the preaching of the gospel compels people. In other words, it draws people and convinces them of the truth. And Dave helped us see the importance of holding fast to this message.

One truth that should give us great comfort is that the message itself has the power to convince and compel people. As we hear Paul say later in Romans, the reason he's not ashamed of the gospel is because "it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." (Rom. 1:16b ESV)

It's not our presentation that holds the power, but rather the truth that it was necessary for Jesus to suffer and be raised. The truth that all who have sinned and fall short are also justified by His grace. The truth that God forgives all who repent and believe this good news.

What other message could have the power to turn the world upside down? And what an amazing privilege that we get to proclaim this same good news!

In the power of the Spirit, with confidence in this compelling gospel, let's do that in faith as the Lord gives us opportunities this week.
